Blue and grey on a winter day

Jeans: Esprit , Jumper: Yes or No , Boots: Andrés Machado (via Stravers-shoes), Necklace: Shoeby, Bag: H&M (new)

“Gray skies are just clouds passing over.” – Duke Ellington

I think the colour combination of blue and grey is beautiful. Grey days are part of life and so are days with bright blue skies. I personally think the expression “winter blues” is a funny one, since most winter days are “winter greys” in the part of the world where I live.

Since I have enjoyed both winter blues (literally: bright blue skies up in the mountains) and winter greys (also literally: in the low lands) over the past few weeks, I have combined both colours in one winterly outfit this  week.

My classy yet casual outfit consists of many “old” pieces (see also my blogpost about sustainability). The only new item is the blue bag, a Xmas gift from one of my sons. That makes the bag even more beautiful in my eyes.

I do not only love the colour combination, but also the combination of wide legged jeans with a tight-fitting jumper (see also my outfit for Valentine’s Day). The flare jeans create the illusion of long legs (with a little help of my grey boots) while the jumper hugs and embraces my petite frame perfectly. The necklace is the ultimate finishing touch, bringing the colour scheme into balance and spicing up the relatively simple jumper.

I would love reading what you think of today’s outfit, so please share your thoughts in the comments section below. Oh, and when you happen to know why “winter blues” are called exactly that, please share your knowledge! I am intrigued.

Thank you for visiting my blog and wishing you a happy day with more blue than grey.

Love,

Lieske

  1. And there you stood in your socks?? Haha! Great quote, totally agree with it! Those jeans look fantastic on you and the boots are great! Sort of boots that look good on everything! I think you found a perfect spot, again, for these photos.

    1. Thanks Nancy. Yeah, those boots are great, just pretty challenging to walk in for a long time…Well, to quote Johan Cruijff: “elk nadeel heb z’n voordeel” (every disadvantage has got its advantage). As for the location: pure luck that we stumbled upon that yellow excavator. We just took advantage of the occasion immediately! Have a great weekend. Love, Lieske

  2. Hi Lieske, enjoying your weekly posts! This week’s outfit looks really good. I also like flaired trousers and boots!!!

  3. Such an interesting post about the colors and subsequent moods of winter. I do love the combination of gray and blue. Your color blocked boots are stunning. How wonderful that you can see both colors depending on where your eye rests.

In New York we mostly get different colors of shady grey. The buildings are so tall that even when the sky is blue we don’t get the benefit of the sunshine. I did walk quite a distance uptown today so that I could actually see the sun. It was worth the walk.

Lovely and thoughtful post as always my friend

    1. Thanks for your comment Elle. You have such a great way with words. Thanks for the info on NYC too. I am so looking forward to visiting it for the first time ever in a few months and we should really make sure we meet! Love, Lieske

  4. Love that outfit Lieske. Smart, casual, plus the colours are beautiful – finished off with the stunning necklace – I have only recently started to wear costume jewellery since starting my blog and Instagram – it’s definately the finishing touch to an outfit!

    1. Thanks Alison. I know what you mean. When you start blogging, you look at your outfits in a different way. I have found much more inspiration than before and just love that. I have to stay practical with jewellery though, since it should not be in my way when teaching. Enjoy your day! Love, Lieske
